Super Polyurethane Foam becoming viable for Oil Spill Clean-Up

31751D, Oleophilic Foam test at ANL: ANL; Seth Darling, Ed Barry Oleophilic Foam for Oil Spill Mitigation - Reusable hydrophobic, oleophilic foam acts as an efficient, low-cost, and environmentally friendly technology for the absorption of submerged oil.

Good technologies out there, but more capital / partners are needed for development of market, consulting firms with a balance sheet should look to partner and bring out proprietary solutions as an edge to win bids.

Conventional methodologies for oil spill reclamation often receive criticism for being harsh on marine life and the challenges in deploying them during harsh weather states and rough seas. Hence, there is a need to come up with advanced methods for oil spill reclamation that can be used irrespective of the weather conditions and viscosity of the spilt hydrocarbons.

Double-hulled tankers are widely used for the reclamation of petroleum spills among various other technologies. This is mainly because of the ease of functionality and flexibility it provides. Technological advancements focused on producing oleophilic foams at industrial
scale will be expected to push the adoption of oleophilic foams from the major stakeholders from the oil & gas industry.

Key stakeholders in the oleophilic foams marketplace include Argonne National Laboratory (US), National Oil Spill Response Research (US), and Oil Eraser (US)
